    Inspection 101 seminar

    Join our distinguished panelists for a collaborative discussion around inspection on education projects.  We will explore three main themes related to inspection including:

    ·         Owner’s expectations of an Inspector

    ·         The interface of quality control and inspection

    ·         Effective communication between the Owner, Builder, Designer and    inspector 

    Seminar Panelists:

    Panelist: Mark Claussen 

    Title: Bond Program Manager – Southwestern Community College District, President at Mark Claussen and Associates, LLC

    Bio:Over three decades of progressive field and executive responsibility leading large engineering and facilities management organizations and directing operations, design, construction, and environmental programs. Proven success in directing “big picture” strategic planning, design and construction of buildings, infrastructure, environmental remediation, base realignment and closure actions, and facilities support contracts for large maintenance and public works organizations. Effective communicator and fiscal manager. Proven leader in developing staff and drawing organizations together to manage change, corporate growth, transformational initiatives, and challenging client development.

    Panelist: Jason Maletic

    Title: President of Blue Coast Consulting

    Bio:Over 31 years’ experience in the Construction Industry.  Jason founded Blue Coast Consulting in 2000 and is currently the President of this firm that provides inspection services across California.  Jason is a Class 1 Project Inspector through the Division of the State Architect.  He also holds credentials through the following agencies/organizations: Contractor’s State License Board (Classification B), Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (Class A Inspector), California Emergency Management Agency, California Safety Assessment Program, Disaster Service Worker (Volunteer) and the International Code Council (Special Inspector).

    Panelist: Nathan Larson

    Title: Supervising Structural Engineer, California Division of the State Architect

    Bio:Nathan Larson is a Supervising Structural Engineer with the California Division of the State Architect.  He supervises the DSA-San Diego regional office field staff which oversees the construction of K-12 and community college buildings in San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange and Imperial Counties.  He is a licensed Civil and Structural Engineer who was in private practice for 13 years before joining DSA in 1994.  Nathan resides in San Marcos with his wife Debbie and two daughters.

    Panelist: Don Webb

    Title: Director, Construction Management Department at San Diego Unified School District

    Bio:Don leads the Construction Management Department for San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) which provides the necessary staff and resources to each Facilities Planning & Construction (FPC) project for construction and inspections.  Prior to his current position with SDUSD, Don held other positions including: Inspector for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Special Inspector for Wyman Testing and was also an Ironworker Foreman for two steel companies.

    Justin Maletic

    Title:Director of Business Acquisition for Balfour Beatty Construction

    Bio:Justin has over 15 years of experience in the construction industry with a background in operations.  He is currently the Director of Business Acquisition for Balfour Beatty’s California Division, leading pursuit management efforts during the acquisition phase.  Justin helps the integration of preconstruction efforts with operations and supervises the Marketing Department, Communications and Business Development Functions.  Justin earned an MBA from San Diego State University.
